If your expense or bill shows a compliance flag, a policy rule was triggered. Here's how to see why and what to do.
See what was flagged
- Open the flagged item — it shows a Compliance / Not Compliant badge.
- In the Compliance section, each violation shows:
- its name (for example, "Duplicate expense" or "Over spending limit"),
- a severity — Critical, High, Medium, or Low, and
- a description of what triggered it.
Request an exception
If the flag doesn't apply in your case, you can ask for it to be waived:
- Click or tap Request Exception.
- Select the violation(s) it applies to and enter a justification (required).
- Submit. The violation updates to Requested / Awaiting approval.
- If it's approved, the violation is waived (sometimes until a set date) and the item can move forward. If it's rejected, you'll be notified.
Tip: Sometimes fixing the underlying issue — correcting an amount, or removing a genuine duplicate — clears the flag without needing an exception. If it looks like a policy question, check with your finance team.
